Product Description

Skullcap, Scutellaria lateriflora , is a member of the Lamiaceae family. The name skullcap relates to its flowers that are said to resemble medieval helmets and ‘lateriflora’ is a description of the flowers, that grow on the side of the stem. Historically, it was also used as a treatment for rabies, leading to the name ‘mad dog weed’ due to a Dr Van Derveer stating it prevented ‘400 persons and 1000 cattle from becoming hydrophobus after being bitten by mad dogs’. It was described in the first American Materia Medica published in 1875. Skullcap was used by the indigenous people of North America as a medicine It has cool and dry energetics. Magically, Skullcap is associated with peace, relationship commitment and transitioning.

Skullcap is native across North America. It is a wetland loving plant that grows to around 80 cm with blue flowers.

The natural constituents of Skullcap are:
Flavonoid glycosides, flavonoid aglycones, phenylpropanoids, sesquiterpene hydrocarbons.

This product contains dried aerial parts.

Suggested use: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons per mug of freshly boiled and slightly cooled water, allow to steep for 5 to 10 minutes and strain to remove herbs.
