Siberian Ginseng, Eleutherococcus senticosus, is a member of the araliaceae. It is a different plant entirely from that which is traditionally called Panax Ginseng. The two plants are from the same family and have similar properties but a slightly different chemical make up, discovered by the Russians whilst screening plants due to a shortage of Panax Ginseng. It is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to strengthen the qi and is also known as ‘wu jia’ but several other plants also share this name so care is needed to ensure that the plant offered is actually Siberian Ginseng as some of the other plants called ‘wu jia’ have toxicity issues. Magically, Siberian Ginseng helps with mental resilience.
