Red Sage, Dan Shen, Salvia miltiorrhiza, is a member of the Lamiaceae family. Red sage is a bitter, cooling traditional herb of Chinese Herbal Medicine. It was wrote about during the Eastern Han Dynasty in “The Herbal Classic of Sheng Nong”, over 2000 years ago and in the Shennong Bencao Jing (The Divine Farmer’s Materia Medica), around 100 CE.
Red Sage is native across China and Vietnam. It grows up to 60 cm tall with delicate mauve flowers.
The natural constituents of Red Sage are:
Diterpene diketones including tanshinones, isotanshinones and cryptotanshinones
This product contains dried aerial parts.
Use with caution in pregnancy
Suggested use: Add 1 teaspoon per mug of freshly boiled and slightly cooled water, allow to steep for 5 to 10 minutes and strain to remove herbs.
