Pot Marigold, Calendula officinalis, is a member of the Asteraceae family. The latin binomial name has origins in the roman ‘kalends’ for the first day of the month, eluding to it’s habit of flowering throughout the year. The original common name came from the anglo-saxon marsomeargealla. The flowers coined the adaptation ‘Mary’s Gold’ in the Middle Ages after the Virgin Mary and open when the sun comes up and track the path of the sun throughout the day, giving rise to it’s French name, one who follows the sun – Soucie. Pot Marigold is perhaps better known for it’s use in skin creams and treatments. The whole flower contains more constituents than just the petals alone. Magically, Pot marigold is associated with clear vision, both the current situations and future events, justice and protection.
Pot Marigold native to southern Europe is an annual or short lived perennial that has a long flowering season and grows readily from seed.

Suggested use: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons per mug of freshly boiled and slightly cooled water, allow to steep for 5 to 10 minutes and strain to remove herbs.
