Product Description

Plantain, Plantago lanceolata, is a familiar and widespread herb, and is a member of the Plantaginaceae family. It was one of the Anglo-saxons nine sacred herbs. This species grows well in long grass but you may also be familiar with its broad leaved cousin that grows well on sports fields and pathways. Indeed, the old Anglo-Saxon name was waybroed, due to where it could commonly be found and that the seeds could be ground to make a rough type of travel bread. Plantain is far better than dock to rub on nettle stings! If the flesh of the leaf is carefully broken in two, the elastic veins can still be seen, holding the two haves together. The energetics of plantain are moist, cooling and sweet. The tea is slightly reminiscent of mushrooms. Magically, plantain is used for divination and the roots were woven into amulets to protect against evil influence and developing boundaries.

Plantain is native to Europe but grows wild worldwide. It is a low growing herbaceous perennial. Psyllium is a species of plantain that is utilised for the soluble fibre found in the seed husk.

The key natural constituents of plantain are:
Mucilage polysaccharides, flavonoids, iridoid glycosides, phenylethanoids and tannins

This product contains dried leaves.

Suggested use: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons per mug of freshly boiled and slightly cooled water, allow to steep for 5 to 10 minutes and strain to remove herbs.
