Passion Flower, Passiflora incarnata, also known as Maypop and a member of the Passifloraceae family, the name passion flower is derived from the shape of the flowers which were believed to represent the crucifixion of Jesus. The colours, purple and white, represented heaven and purity whilst the 5 stamens and three styles represent the 5 wounds and the 3 nails. In North America, the indigenous people used passion flower as a medicine and this was then integrated into the medicine of the European colonists. Magically, passionflower is thought to bring spirituality and peace but as the flowers last for a single day, it is a reminder to live in the present.
Passion flower is native to the southern USA and central and southern Mexico but is popularly grown in gardens across other areas of the globe although the plant is frost tender. The plant grows as a vine and has fruits with many seeds.

Suggested use: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons per mug of freshly boiled and slightly cooled water, allow to steep for 5 to 10 minutes and strain to remove herbs.
