Nettle, Urtica dioica, is a member of the urticaceae. Whilst it grows rampant as a weed and is considered to be a nuisance in allotments and gardens, it has a firm place in western herbal medicine as well as other herbal medicine modalities across the world, from Tibet to North America. Nettle is also useful as a mineral rich food, when the fresh new nettle tops emerge in spring, making an excellent soup or as a side dish and it is also used to make compost. Nettle is also valued as a textile, having historically been used to make cordage and woven into material. Magically, Nettle is associated with a warrior spirit and returning a curse to its originator, as well as protection, exorcism and healing. It can also fight off negativity.
Nettle is native to the whole of the European continent and Western China. It grows as a herbaceous perennial and the top leaves should be harvested prior to flowering.
Key natural constituents of nettle are:
Chlorophyll, Flavonoids including quercetin, kaempferol and rutin, indoles including histamine and serotonin, Phenolic constituents including vanillin, sterols, tannins, and omega 3 fatty acids
This product contains dried leaves.
