Product Description

Milk Thistle, Silybum marianum, is a member of the Asteraceae family. It is named from the Greek, Silybos, which means ‘tuft’. It is also known as Mary’s Thistle, Blessed Thistle or St Mary’s Thistle as the white marks on the leaves are said to have been caused when Mary fed the baby Jesus and some of her milk landed on the leaves. It was described by Greek physician and botanist, Dioscorides in the first century AD but it has been used far longer than that. Magically, Milk Thistle is of course associated with the Virgin Mary and is also associated with raising the spirit and for protection as well.

Milk Thistle is an annual plant that is native to southern europe and Asia but has naturalised across the world. It has spines leaves and purple flowers and can grow anywhere between 30 cm and 2 metres.

The natural constituents of Milk Thistle are:
Flavonoligands (silymarins) including silybin, silychristin, silydianin, deehydrosilybinin and isosilybinin. Also linoleic, oleic and palmitic acids and sterols.

This product contains dried seeds.

Suggested use: Add 1 to 2 ground teaspoons per mug of freshly boiled and slightly cooled water, allow to steep for 5 to 10 minutes and strain to remove herbs.
