Holy Basil (Tulsi), Ocimum tenuiflorum, is a member of the lamiaceae family, and has a fresh, minty flavour. Holy basil is also called “The Incomparable One”, “Mother Medicine of Nature” and “The Queen of Herbs”. It is a traditional Ayurvedic herb and grows across the Indian continent. It was referenced in the ancient Ayurvedic texts ‘Charaka Samhita‘ and the ‘Sushruta Samhita‘ around a 100 years BC. Holy basil has light, dry, hot, bitter and pungent energetics. It is a herb of Vishnu, a Hindu God and everything to do with the plant and its growing environment is holy; ti is revered as an “elixir of life”. It is used in morning prayers and strings of beads are made from the stems and used in meditation. Magically, holy Basil is used for protection, and for clarity in meditation, and has the energy of purity, bringing joy.

Suggested use: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons per mug of freshly boiled and slightly cooled water, allow to steep for 5 to 10 minutes and strain to remove herbs.
