Astragalus, Astragalus mongholicus, is also known as Astragalus membranaceus, is a member of the Fabaceae family. The name astragalus may have devised from the Greek origin of the word ‘ankle bone’ and another common name for Astragalus is from the Greek astron and gala – Star Milk. In China, it is known as Huang Qi, meaning ‘yellow leader’, and Astragalus is said to support the ‘Qi’. The ‘Shennong’s Classic of Materia Medica’, written from the Warring States Period to Han Dynasty is the first place where its use has been recorded. Magically, it is associated with good luck, prosperity, protection, healing and spirituality.
Astragalus is native to China, Korea and Mongolia. It is a very typical member of the pea and bean family, a perennial that grows to around 75 cm.
The natural constituents of Astragalus are:
Triterpenoid saponins including astragalosides, also polysaccharides, flavonoids and isoflavonoids
This product contains root.
Suggested use: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons per mug of freshly boiled and slightly cooled water, allow to steep for 5 to 10 minutes and strain to remove herbs.
