Amla, Phyllanthus emblica, is also known as the Indian Gooseberry and is a member of the phyllanthaceae family. Amal is known for its high vitamin C content and unsurprisingly, it has a sour and sweet flavour and is one of the three fruits that make up triphala. The alma tree is said to have grown from the tears of twin goddesses Parvati and Lakshmi when they cried with joy at discovering their desire to worship the greater gods. Magically, amla is linked to longevity, youthfulness and memory.
Amla is a tropical Asian tree that can grow to 8 metres. The fruit is golf ball sized and almost round.

Suggested use: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons per mug of freshly boiled and slightly cooled water, allow to steep for 5 to 10 minutes and strain to remove herbs.
