So Christmas and the New Year has passed and most people are now stuck between that feeling that they should be demotivated and invigorated whilst also knowing that there’s at least two more months of winter weather to get through and the short days and long nights will be here for a while yet.

What better way to feel invigorated and warmed up through January than with our friend Rosemary! As an official member of the mint family, we know Rosemary as a strongly scented culinary herb but it’s also amazing as a tea, especially when you need a pick me up during those first days back after the Christmas break! One cup is all it takes to get your brain back in to gear and ease you back in to the world of work and it’s lovely and warming too, to drive away that winter chill. It’s not a tea to over indulge in though, a little rosemary goes a long way!

Rosemary is a Mediterranean herb and loves warm, dry conditions. It was used by the ancient Egyptians in their embalming process and was thought to have been brought to Britain by the romans and was grown in monastery herb gardens in the 8th century. In the 14th century, it was included as part of a gift to Queen Phillippa, wife of King Edward III, from her mother and was planted at the palace in Westminster.

Rosemary is also a good altar herb and can be used in an incense burner too. It’s a great herb for bringing wisdom and remembering the past and is known as a protective herb too.

And the very best thing about Rosemary is its price. As a culinary herb, Rosemary is grown in large quantities commercially so its a bit easier on that post Christmas budget too.

Caution should be used with Rosemary during pregnancy.
